The Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS) Barcoding certification enables the Postal Service to evaluate the accuracy of address-matching software programs. The program was created by the USPS to regulate the preparations of bulk mailings by lowering postage fees,speeding up delivery and reducing undeliverable mail. CASS processing helps your database by making sure the address meets USPS standards, corrects any information to produce a USPS compliant address including the ZIP + 4, carrier route, delivery point barcodes and line of travel information which are required to print the barcode on each article of mail for automation discounts,adds missing information,corrects spelling of the address as well as converts to a format that is readable by USPS automation equipment. All of this results in a CASS Form 3553 postal report which gets submitted with your mailings that qualify for discounts.However, in order to qualify for said discounts you must be using a current address matching search engine from a vendor that is CASS certified by the USPS.
